Prepare for SAT – Look at the Structure and Marks for Each Section –

SAT is a college admission test in the US. A good SAT score will give you access to the schools of your choice. It has three main sections – Math, Evidence Based Reading, and Writing. The total time for the test is 3 hours and 50 minutes. This is including the optional 50 minutes essay. The best way to prepare for SAT is to start preparing early.

First Reading and Writing –

You can take the SAT as many times as you want but it is recommended that you do not take it more than 4 times. The latest 6 scores of your SAT will be on record. It is important to plan your preparation. Begin by taking a look at the question structure. The first part is the Reading Test that has 52 questions and you have 65 minutes to answer them. There are no penalty marks in SAT so make sure you answer all the questions. For practice, use College Board questions because if you practice with low quality questions, you will get attuned to that low standard.

Check your score first –

This means you need only 760 in SAT Math which is easy. If you plan to apply for Social Science or Humanities major you need 800 in SAT Writing. At leading schools like Yale and Princeton, the 75 percentile score is 800 in Reading and Writing.

Use the proper strategy –

One reason for not scoring high marks is that one does not prepare in the way one should. Even students with average knowledge of English can score high marks if one puts in the effort. One reason is that SAT is a tricky test. The Writing Section now called Writing and Language section focuses on grammar, punctuation, and word choice along with tone, organisation, and flow. This part is passage based. This Writing score will combine with your Reading score to make one Verbal score.

Writing is coming after Reading so you have time for a 5-minute break. Writing has 44 questions to be answered in 35 minutes. That gives you a little over 45 seconds to answer each question. You get 4 passages of 4 or 5 paragraphs each and each of them has 11 questions. The questions will remain aligned to the paragraph from which they expect the answer.
